What is the best Lego game?often think of picking one up (as they normally go really cheap quickly) just to pass the time sometimes between games.

Ive bought all of the Lego games so r and each one was better than the last, still need to pick up Clone Wars and I have this one on pre-order.
Unlockable red hats provide optional modifiers, multiplying treasure, speeding up construction and best of all, magnetising the player for easier stud hoovering.
The Pelegosto stage sees you roll around in ball-shaped cages, and immediately made me yearn for a Lego Katamari.
2 what genre do you prefer, they are all good games, so r for my it would be the complete star wars game.
And as the Pirates-movies are deeper stitched in my memories then The Clone Wars, im sure Ill enjoy it a bit more then Lego Star Wars III (which I liked, for the record, but that didnt manage to pull the same strings like Harry Potter or The Complete Saga)

I appreciate the “each to their own” sentiment but me… these are really dire.
Ozzy: I would definitely be interested in a LEGO Golf game.
Which is why I wouldnt own or support TT Games but wont deny my kids opportunity to play.

Yeah, going back to what I was saying earlier, I would love an updated Lego Creator game. Have near limitless numbers of bricks, actiony bricks like the Lego Creator explosives, as well as its minifigures, drivable vehicles, a wider variety of themes, DLC for new themes, Lego Technic availability…..theres Lego DesignByMe which lets you make your own sets, but its not the same.
One of the unsung strengths of the Lego games is that their reductive approach to plotting allows them to skip or gloss over the weaker elements of their inspiration. In the case of Pirates of the Caribbean, thats several hours worth of storytelling bloat – and at times, TT Games punctures it perfectly.
Ive only tried one Lego game so r, the Indy one (the 1st) and I didnt like it much, too… bland, kitsch without the cool ctor, though I want to give TT another chance, and since I kinda like this franchise Im glad the reviewer enjoyed it. Ill bite.
Not to mention millions of pound coins into their coffers. Just sayin!
Loved Batman and SW Complete Saga. Not a huge n of Pirates, but saw an onstage demo from a chap from Travellers Tales and hes completely sold me on it. Looking great.
Excellent, this could have been 2/10 and I would have bought it though, I simply LOVE the Lego games! And you certainly get you moneys worth if you 100% complete them!
GameConnoisseur- I dont know whether your post was intended to be sarcastic (so I apologise if it wasnt or if youre hearing-impaired or something) but the LEGO games have absolutely no spoken dialogue whatsoever and therefore do not require subtitles. All the cutscenes are mimed with the odd comedic vocalisation, grunt, yelp, etc for effect, presumably to make them more appealing for kids who would find talking boring.
In particular, the ludicrous convolutions of third film At Worlds End are beautifully skewered in one single scene where the characters rapidly exchange places until half are on one side and half on the other. Who needs two hours of cross and double-cross when a single thirty-second sequence can cover similar ground without the audience looking at their watches – and offer a knowing chuckle into the bargain?
3 Im 39 and will be getting this…youngsters today ect.
Well, the game can be bought for about 15 euros here in Belgium. Maybe Ill get it one day.
Excellent game, finished the story missions by now. The Pirates/Lego combination is ntastic, after the Potter and Batman games didnt really catch on to me.
No, you think they are dire. Theres a difference. If the games were , people would not be buying the different iterations of the same very basic principle over and over again.

When hes not clashing swords with guards or piratical foes, Jacks compass is his most important weapon, used to find secret items by following a twisting path highlighted in blue, with the added bonus of a breadcrumb trail of Lego studs. Most items can be located simply through thorough exploration, but its much more satisfying to find them properly – where X marks the spot.
Incidentally, author: have you tried the PC Lego Creator games? Generally youre limited to Town and Castle themes but its still basically a virtual toybox. Id like a new version though
Doesnt that read much nicer?
Shall pick this up when it arrives. Bought every TT Lego game so r (with the exception of Batman and Rockband) and keep enjoying them, despite the deja vu.
Simple reason, these games are not accessible as all the wiity dialogues escape me totally, lastchaos gold. Lego series is one of the rare ones today that doesnt include option for subtitles.
The parodies, as ever, are on the money, and the naturally dark tone of the Pirates films was clearly more fun for the developer to subvert. Here, the dramatic climax of Dead Mans Chest sees Jack Sparrow happily embrace his imminent demise, stepping into the mouth of the Kraken not wielding a sword, but a toothbrush with a generous squirt of Aquafresh.
duffmansim not too fussed really, i guess the appeal of the lego games are the franchises them selves, they are all franchises that people invariably like, or can see the appeal in spoofing them. Im a massive batman n, so i would think that, but i quite what i have seen of the potter one. Seems to be be more puzzle orientated than the others?
Pretty much what I expected: a solid Lego game with a decent amount of polish. Glad to hear it.
Ordering it online of course, im not going into a shop and asking for it
For some bizarre reason though, the PC version of this game is not available on PC DVD-ROM here in the UK (at least according to CoolShop who where the only e-tailer listing it until they were told they wouldnt be getting it) nor can you buy it from Steam or Direct2Drive either. Way to go, Disney, make the game as awkward to buy for PC owners as possible and, thus, almost guarantee it will bomb on that format.
On 3DS, Lego Pirates offers decent depth but looks a little fuzzy; otherwise, its a trimmed-down version of the home game.
I downloaded and tried the PC demo of this game last night (oddly I could only find the demo on The Pirate Bay!!!). Its 1 GB in size. It seemed OK, typical LEGO gameplay and some very amusing, very well-done cut-scenes as youd expect. Its amusing how well done Jack Sparrow is done especially, he is instantly recognisable even as LEGO and walks the way youd expect too. The visuals seem to have had a makeover with a more shiny, plasticky look to the LEGO characters and the same high-detailed backgrounds that made LEGO Harry Potter such a joy to play.
Perhaps surprisingly, such a cascade of Lego bits doesnt seem to cause any kind of technical hiccup. Indeed, the tearing and slowdown that have blighted previous Lego games are conspicuous by their absence. Graphically, this is the most impressive in the series to date, with some exceptional lighting complementing the sun-kissed island environments and the storm-lashed, seaborne set-pieces more visually exciting.
joel, that mostly depends which of the franchises theyre based on you like or, at leas, are miliar with. except for indy 2, that one wasnt very good.
Yeah, remember that Move demo where you could build something with Lego pieces using the Move controller? That looked absolutely ntastic. Do want.
ozzzy-
If Pirates seems less ambitious than the last two Lego titles, lacking the cohesiveness of Potters Hogwarts hub or the epic scale of Clone Wars, um, wars, then it makes up for it with an overall confidence borne from TT Games experience with the licence. The highlight of Dead Mans Chest – that three-way swordfight atop, around and inside a giant water wheel – probably wouldnt have been attempted a couple of years ago, but its replicated here in all its remarkable silliness. Its arguably one of the few moments where the games reach exceeds the developers grasp, the sole occasion where the platforming feels a little awkward, but its so audacious that you cant help but admire the effort.
FWIW-i have loved all the Lego games, and Lego Batman is pretty much my vourite
On the subject of the “voice acting” – did anyone else watch the “first 15 mins” video and notice how each characters soundbytes (somehow) sound remarkably like the original actor? Even without dialogue, the characters are almost recognisable from the audio alone. Spot on, TT.
download the free official lego digital designer for PC and build away.
I ve preordered this for my son, he loved Lego games to bit, I do play co op with him but cannot play any of the game on my own.
arcam- It is indeed.
Chris Schilling writes about video games for a living, and knows an awful lot about Pokmon. Ask him anything. (Though he may have to confer with his son.)
Do we have any idea what the ds (not 3ds) version is like, how dumbed down they (lego games) tend to be on ds. My 5 year old loves the 360 demo, so I would like to get her, her own version.
These lego games are surprisingly addictive.
Oh yes, thats right Disney – youre on a roll…
Just tried the demo and even though Im not keen on the films, its bloody excellent. What really blew me away were the graphics. Theyre ing amazing. The review is spot on – the lighting in particular is very good indeed.
Just as the Star Wars prequels were shorn of midichlorians, younglings and dialogue about sand being rough, and transformed into lean, exciting, set-piece-driven action films, the Pirates movies suddenly become much more appealing in Lego form. Sure, there are perhaps too many stages where youre fighting aboard a ship at night and/or during a storm, but you can blame the apparently light-phobic helmsman Gore Verbinski for that.
As with the films, Jack is the undoubted star. That walk – half stagger, half swagger – is even more of a hoot in miniature. He constantly looks on the verge of toppling over, leaning backwards then forwards as he capers along.

That sentence sucks for SEO purposes. Doesnt even include the name of the game or the name of the new site.
Until then, we have formulaic but tremendously enjoyable games like this – not that you can blame TT Games for sticking to the template that has brought millions of young gamers such enjoyment over the past few years. Its true that those whove played the last two or three Lego titles might experience a little dj vu, but the rest will likely find that a pirates life is very much for them. Savvy?
Frequently, its simply a case of switching to the right character in the right location, but rather than just being handed the ship-in-the-bottle minikit piece you were after, often whole new areas will open up, hiding multiple secrets and unique asides. One of the later levels sees a mermaids singing reveal the den of a large Lego spider which you then ride into battle against other arachnids. The same stage also carries a miniature ship skirmish where you steer your craft across a small pool, blasting enemy galleons with cannon fire.
The old phrase “If it aint broke, dont fix it” (although its “If it aint broke, hit it until it is then collect everything” gameplay wise) comes to mind.
If you havent got sick of the musical instrument genre and dont mind 2-3 emo songs leaving a turd on the lawn, Lego Rock Band is the best Lego game TT have made. Its tons of fun, has a great little tracklist and also is perfect for introducing your kids to the joys tales of pirates hacksof David Bowie, Queen and Iggy Pop. Also, it has Ghostbusters.
Star Wars: The Complete Saga is probably the best if you want a “Traditional” platformer Lego game. Or if you really want to go old school, Lego Island and Lego Island 2 are probably some of the best kids games ever made.
Id be interested in picking this up on Steam, but alas – the fine folk at Disney have seen fit to completely ignore Steam in vour of the vastly superior “Direct2Drive” service from IGN.
Hey everyone, what do you think I should get this game for, 3DS or Wii? Thumbs up for Wii, thumbs down for 3DS!
Finishing flourishes see him revert to type, distracting his enemy by pointing one way before whacking them with an empty rum bottle, or stepping back and lobbing a banana skin under their feet. Best of all is when he picks up a guitar; while most characters will strum a gentle acoustic melody, Jack scratches out a scuzzy rock riff. Try to move while playing and – brilliantly – he adopts Chuck Berrys mous duckwalk.
And, moreover…I cant help but imagine buying a virtual Lego toybox might put people off spending a fortune on the real stuff. And, in many ways, the “build anything” genre has been filled by Minecraft at this stage. Still, a man can dream.
Edit – Im 35 and cannot even say I am buying it for daughter as she is only 5 months old!
“It still irks me slightly that a game based on a construction toy spends more time on destruction, even if the compulsion to smash everything and siphon up those lovely studs remains so strong. One day, Id love to play a Lego game that allows me to build anything I want, like that giant starship I built from four different sets of space Lego as a kid. ”
Osahi-Shall pick this up when it arrives. Bought every TT Lego game so r (with the exception of Batman and Rockband) and keep enjoying them, despite the deja vu.
Anyone who hasnt played any of them so r and is looking for a good first time out, I recommend Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga. Might not have the best gameplay, but its a widely recognised story so seeing the Travellers Tales take on it is very amusing and it of course brings the best mix of characters, something I think Indy and Harry Potter didnt manage so well.
In ct, Lego Jack is an idealised version of the character – a little more akin to the dashing anti-hero Bruckheimer and co. imagined before Johnny Depp decided his portrayal needed a little more kohl,Kilo Kaiand Keith Richards. He might not have the walk of a swashbuckler, but his swordfighting skills are much more impressive than in the films.Michael Bolton would surely approve.
Otherwise, everything feels that bit more polished. There are sticky platforms that make it harder to lose your footing, and while AI characters still have their moments – at one point I was convinced blacksmith Mr. Briggs was trying to parody Jacobs Ladder, though his rapid shaking was merely because he was stuck on a piece of scenery – for the most part their behaviour is a vast improvement on previous games. The lone player certainly wont be pining after the comparative reliability of a human partner quite so often.
Spoiler warning? I think its reasonable to assume that folks interested in the property would have seen the film that has been out for SIX YEARS.

metallicorphan: Lego Batman never really appealed to me as I lack the knowledge and affection for the comic-Batman Universe (I love the Burton and Nolan-movies though). Played the demo and decided to pass. (have to admit that I wasnt into Lego Games until Harry Potter blew my mind. When Batman was released I only played -and enjoyed- Star Wars Complete Saga. I picked the Indy games up after Harry Potter)
Im 20 years old and Im still going to get this. Not day one of course but I just find the Lego titles so funny. Its a nice break from playing FPS and what not!
technotica – Liked the first, thought the second was fun in parts but a bloated mess in others. The third was rubbish.
By the look of things, On Stranger Tides offers a return to the r storytelling of the first – and best – Pirates film. Fingers crossed, eh?
These games are , I hate them with a passion and have a very hard time understanding what people see in them.
Pleased to hear its more of the same. Lego Batman got full completion from the girlfriend and me, and were 23 and 26 respectively, so I cant see why this wouldnt too. It might be categorised as a kids game but we found some of the parts in Batman slightly tricky at first.

Parents! If you think your kid might be interested in LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean, get them to check it out onMegaton.co.uk, our gaming site for kids.
If only they did a franchise that I love, like the Star Trek universe. drools
a spoiler warning wouldve been welcome there.
The problem here is Im spoilt for choice. Star Wars,Batman,Indy or PotC? Ive got the SW one and still not got through it all.
Not that youll be able to find them all on your first play. Perhaps even more so than previous Lego games, the real meat of the game is found in the Free Play mode. To truly complete a stage, youll need to have unlocked and purchased a wide range of characters – from the Flying Dutchman crew members able to slip through strange, slimy portals to the blunderbuss-wielding bit-parters whose weapons can blow a hole in silver objects.
What is the best Lego game?often think of picking one up (as they normally go really cheap quickly) just to pass the time sometimes between games.
Im 42 and im buying this for myself.
I ony like the original Star Wars one, the rest have been re-skinned tedium.
But the selling point of these games is seeing your vourite franchises recreated in Lego form and injected with affectionate parody. Anybody who is playing a Lego game without already being miliar with the source material is missing the point (and, probably, the punchline of every reference). Its ir that the review makes the same assumptions as the game does about our knowledge of the movies.
Yet still not the best Jack Sparrow related media this week. Sorry TT
May want this game also. My nearly 3 y/o son likes lego and loves pirates, and although thisLego Pirates of the Caribbean Review tales of pirates hacks may still be a bit too hard to control perhaps, at least its made of the stuff that would motivate him to get to grips with it.
The game may be an 8/10, if give this review a 9/10. Chris Schilling totally “gets” what TTs Lego games are about.
I for one wouldnt. One of the main reasons (if not the) Ive been having such an insane amount of fun (in ct, more fun that with any other series these days) is the LEGO-stud kleptomania as you yourself so aptly put it. If I want to build things out of LEGO Ill get me some real LEGO to play with (as a thirty-year old, mind). The fun of these games for me is, for a large part, the smashing, shooting and whipping of scenery and I wouldnt have it any other way.
I loved the Star Wars one – the humour was brilliant
Otherwise, its that miliar blend of enjoyable, -minded combat, rudimentary puzzles and Lego-stud kleptomania. I dont know whether its down to the noticeably improved game engine, but even Lego veterans may be surprised at just how many tiny shinies the game seems determined to hurl at the player.
Dunno if I would dedicate some of my precious “serious” gaming time to play this, but Id love to take it with me on my summer vacation. Hope the 3DS version turns out well.
Mister-WarioHello! I have not. Might well check them out should I find myself with any free time in the near future. Thanks for the tip!

loopholezero- Seriously a sword fight at the end is a spoiler? Its a film about pirates of course it ends in a sword fight.
EDIT: Psh, negged within four minutes. Clearly Im not hardcore enough if I found Lego Batman “tricky”.
